SunPod Garden-Sept 29 2009
The nights are getting cooler and I have plugged in the heat mats that sit below the Genovese Basil transplants. The days are also not as bright as they were in the summer and I am now turning on the T5 grow lights that are attached to the underside of the purlins. The plants really respond in growth and vigor with the extra light and heat, and I am continuing to harvest tender basil, dill, chard, lettuce and beet greens.
The Signature mini greenhouse with lights. There is a remarkable difference in plant growth with extra light this time of year.
The Basil plants require bottom heat and a protected environment to thrive as the days and nights get cooler. They are happy in the Signature.

Baby "merlin" beet greens also benefit in growth and tenderness by having a place in the Signature, but do not require the bottom heat that Basil does.
/>
Dill "Hercules" is flourishing in a 2 Gallon container. It does not require bottom heat yet, but is very tender grown inside at this time of year.
Lemon Grass once established grows well in containers and is a delight in Thai dishes.
A 2nd Signature sits close to the first on the Patio.
On some cloudy days when there is no wind, lift the Pod up to allow air to circulate around the plants naturally.
The newest Basil transplants are snug and warm on the heat mats.
An interesting comparison in size between the Signature mini and the 420 Gourmet mini greenhouse.
The 420 Gourmet mini greenhouse is taller and offers more growing space than the Signature.
